POEA: More than 5000 Pinoy workers needed in South Korea

MANILA, Philippines – South Korea has 5,000 jobs for Filipino workers waiting to be filled; this was according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

In an interview over DZMM, POEA deputy administrator Jocelyn Sanchez said South Korea has about 5,400 job vacancies for Pinoy workers; mostly in electronics, textile, chemical, and food processing factories.

Salaries could reach as much as $1,200 or about P59,000 a month, said the POEA official, or even higher.

“Kapag masipag ka pa, aabutin ng P90,000. Ibig sabihin ko sa masipag, ‘yung mga overtime,” Sanchez said. [If you worked harder, you could get as much P90,000. I’m referring to the overtime.]

Sanchez added no placement fee is needed and job applicants can only be processed through the POEA; thus ensuring them of a good employer.

Those who are interested to apply may register with the POEA employment system on its website. No need for job interviews too, because the application is online.

However, applicants must successfully pass the skills test. Experience is also a big factor.

“Higher the score, mas priority ka i-hire. Sa pinag-aralan, kahit high school graduate. Sa experience, mabuti kung mahaba,” Sanchez said.

[Those with higher score will be prioritized. At least high school graduate is required and the longer the experience, the better.]

POEA also estimates any applicant will only have to shell out approximately P30,000 each during the application process.
